Three athletes are going to represent University of Warmia and Mazury in this year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro: swimmer Joanna Zachoszcz and sprinters Kacper Kozłowski and Karol Zalewski

The first to be qualified for the Olympic Games was Joanna Zachoszcz of AZS UWM and a law student at University of Warmia and Mazury. Joanna is going to take part in the 10 km open-water swimming event, which will be held on 15 and 16 August.

Kacper Kozłowski of AZS UWM Olsztyn won the right to take part in the Rio de Janeiro Games in the 4×400 m relay race. Kacper graduated from the Faculty of Animal Bioengineering at UWM. Currently, he is training with his father.

The situation was uncertain for quite a long time for Karol Zalewski for the 4×100 m relay race. So far, Karol has won 6 gold and 1 silver medal.

Athletes of the Akademickie Zrzeszanie Sportowe (AZS) at UWM in Olsztyn have represented Poland in 5 Olympic Games, 16 summer and winter university championships, 12 world and European championships and dozens of national and international athletic and competitions. In all, there have been 16 Olympic athletes from AZS, with three competitors in 1972, 1976 and 2004. This year’s three-strong AZS UWM team continues the great tradition of university sport.
